Example Earnings/Savings from a range of Solar PV Systems
| PV System Size | Roof Orientation | Earnings/Savings per annum (simple) |
| 3.9 kW | South | £907.24 |
| 3.9 kW | South East or South West |
£868.35 |
| 3.9 kW | East or West | £771.96 |
| 3 kW | South | £697.88 |
| 3 kW | South East or South West |
£667.96 |
| 3 kW | East or West | £593.82 |
| 2 kW | South | £465.25 |
| 2 kW | South East or South West |
£445.31 |
| 2 kW | East or West | £395.88 |
Although the ideal roof is south facing, you can still get very good returns on your investment if your roof is East or West facing.
Assumptions
Predicted System Performance
The performance of Solar PV systems is impossible to predict with certainty due to the variability in the amount of solar radiation (sunlight) from location to location and from year to year. However, it is possible to estimate the performance of a solar PV system and the UK Microgeneration Scheme requires all certified companies to also give an assessment of system performance using a standardised approach based on the Government’s Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) 2009.
