Solar panel home assessment:
We will need to view your home and talk to you in order to assess your requirements
and identify any possible problems with the installation. Considerations include:
- Which direction your roof faces, ideally southeast to southwest.
It is possible to install solar panels on an east/west facing roof,
but you will probably require an
East/West solar panel system
- We need to erect a scaffolding tower in order to gain access to you roof,
so suitable placement of the tower needs to be considered.
- Possible issues with shade on the roof, which may reduce the efficiency of the solar panel
- Sighting of the solar panel on the roof. Generally it will be centred on the roof
- Distance between the solar panel and the hot water cylinder.
This will not normally be an issue unless you wish to install the panel on a garage, etc.
- Identify what type of hot water system you have, most homes have vented hot water systems
(a cold water tank in the loft feeds water into the hot water cylinder), unvented hot water systems
(the water is fed into the hot water cylinder straight from the mains water supply)
- Unfortunately the cost of an unvented hot water cylinder is around £700 more than a vented cylinder
- Placement of hot water cylinder: Solar cylinders are taller and thinner than normal cylinders
(for efficiency reasons) and as a result,
the replacement solar cylinder could be over half a metre taller than your existing cylinder,
so we need to ensure this can fit in you airing cupboard/loft.
- Adequate access to the airing cupboard and/or loft
- Identifying a suitable plug socket for the controller plug
- If your loft has been converted, it may be difficult to site the pipe-work.
- We can only install a solar hot water system if you currently have a hot water cylinder,
it would not be suitable if you only have a combi-boiler
The solar panel home assessment is free,
we will not put you under any sales pressure and you are under no obligation to purchase.
We can only agree to install a system after a solar panel home assessment has been completed.
